(T)So Sunday morning I get to work and one of my students Jaylyn informs me that her brother (T.J. 16yrs old) was murdered 2 streets down from my house by a 15yr old kid at a house party. I, for one, am tired of all this nonsense being done by all these kids in the low country/the world and I’m trying, no i’m going to do something about it. But I need help! I need at least 32 people to volunteer Sunday mornings 10am-11:30am or 11:30am-1pm for my Middle School Service. All I ask is that you volunteer 1 service 1 time a month. Here’s the deal, a lot of these kids just don’t have POSITIVE people pouring into them. But we can change that. We have to start investing more time in these/our kids, because if we don’t the streets will. And this is something to think about, how would you feel if you had a chance to influence your daughters boyfriend/husband and didn’t. Or you sons girlfriend/wife. The reality is that we do have a chance and the middle school age is where most kids learns about sex, guns, drugs, and alcohol. But we have a chance to teach them about LOVE, HONOR, RESPECT, SACRIFICE, AND THE LOVE OF JESUS. I am not asking you to WRITE A SERMON or BECOME A PREACHER. I’m asking you to watch a video, go over scripted questions, and relate to them. Play Uno, Phase 10, paint scripture doodles, and just let them know someone cares about them. You have the power to change your community, you just have to use it. I have seen it happen before and with your help it will happen again on a much larger scale. This kid is just the beginning.
This kid (Nathaniel 9th grade) made a bunch of bad choices. He had run in’s with the law, was arrested by the time he was 18, and fathered a child.
This same kid (Nathaniel 12th grade) Graduated from high School, works a full time job, and tries to support his child whenever possible. The difference in these 2 kids is the love and time poured into.
