Infidelity Devotional

Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery. Matthew 5:28

LT Kelly Flinn was an American superstar. She graduated from the Air Force Academy and became the first woman to fly B-52s. Then all changed when she engaged in misconduct “unbecoming an officer.” Not only did Flinn commit adultery with a civilian married to an Air Force enlistee, she lied under oath to an Air Force investigator. She defied a direct order to break off the affair and refused to kick him out of her apartment. Because of her infidelity, LT Flinn’s fruitful career ended in 1997.

Fruitfulness comes with faithfulness. God commands us to be faithful, especially in our marriages. Though society may de-stigmatize adultery, trivialize it, and endorse it, what is not mentioned are the destroyed marriages, families, and even neighborhoods. Leaders often ignore or encourage sailors who seek out prostitutes while in foreign ports, at the same time spouses back home satisfy their appetites with their own affairs. Instead, God intended sex to be a blessing of enjoyment within the bounds of marriage. Furthermore, lusting is also an act of adultery that finds a person more controlled than in control. Believers should have but one response to sexual temptation—running away from it. Be a superstar; be faithful then fruitful.

“Infidelity and marital conflict are cancers that gnaw on the soul of mankind, twisting and warping innocent family members who can only stand and watch.” – James C. Dobson
