Lord, I am in a predicament because I cannot meet my financial obligations as they become due. I realize that when I incurred these debts, I made an implied vow to repay them and, therefore, must now make every effort to keep my promise and pay what I owe. Your Word declares that living on credit and not paying my debts is characteristic of the wicked for they borrow and do not repay (Psalm 37:21).
I do not want to use bankruptcy as a quick fix to avoid the responsibility of working through my debts. Please grant me a miracle just a You did for the widow whom You enable to pay her deceased husband’s debts, thereby saving her sons from imprisonment by the creditors (2 Kings 4:1-7). I know that my Christian witness is on the line because most people view bankruptcy as evidence of financial irresponsibility. Help me make the radical and necessary lifestyle adjustments and commit to Your financial priorities. Let me proceed in filing the bankruptcy petition only if this situation is truly due to circumstances beyond my control. Otherwise, I ask that You surround me with favor (Psalm 5:12) as I contact all of my creditors and negotiate a payout for my outstanding balances. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
