Depression Prayer

O Lord, my soul melts from heaviness; I need You to strengthen me according to Your Word (Psm 119:28). If this depression is a result of physical disorder, then I ask You to heal me through a miracle or the right medical prescription, vitamins, or herbs—for You are the ultimate sources of my wholeness.

Lord, help me understand that, like my body, my mind requires nutritious input to be healthy. Empower me to resist the mental junk food of guilt, bitterness, hopelessness, perfectionism, and negative thoughts that lead to depression. Give me a desire to feed on Your Word and focus only on the things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of a good report (Philippians 4:8). Help me spend more time with You for in Your presence there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Yes, Lord, Your joy is my strength (Nehemiah 8:10).

This is the day You have made; I will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24). Help me start focusing on the plans You have for me, plans to give me a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). With the help of the Holy Spirit, I will continually offer a sacrifice of praise to You by proclaiming the glory of Your name (Hebrews 13:15). Thank You for anointing me now with the oil of gladness (Hebrews 1:9). In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
