Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. Matthew 25:41
Luba Gercak experienced the dread and horror of the German death camps during WWII as she witnessed her husband killed and her son snatched from her arms to be delivered to the gas chambers. Malnutrition, disease, and continual executions all contributed to the wretched circumstances. Endless transports brought more and more starving bodies to be crammed into the cheaply built, rat-infested berthing. The miserable conditions elicited fear and trembling.
The agonizing conditions of war cannot even compare to the crucible conditions of Hell. Yes, Hell is a very real place designed as an eternal conscious punishment for the wicked. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 25:30), an unquenchable fire (Mark 9:43), and a relentless torture (Revelation 14:9-11). Unsaved souls simply do not vanish after death, for this would not satisfy the balance between God’s mercy and justice. After all, Jesus spoke more on Hell than He did on any other subject! To reduce the sting of sin and the threat of Hell, is to pervert the Gospel and to feed on lies. Hell is not up for a vote or open for revision. Will we surrender this truth to modern skeptics or will we feel burdened to share the Good News in order to prevent another person from entering the eternal crucible of fear and trembling?
