Trials Devotional

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Romans 7:24

Jack Black was flying his fourteenth mission over Ludwigshafen, Germany April 1, 1944. With the number three engine out and two others barely hanging on, Jack and his crew dropped their bombs and began to lose altitude in the parade of German fighters. Their only chance of survival was “tail-dragging” the aircraft into the English Channel. Unmercifully, the impact killed two of the crew, leaving the rest to survive in the icy water. Life preservers kept the men afloat along with dinghies. Almost forty-four hours passed with nothing to eat or drink, except for a piece of candy. In the miserably cold and soaking wet conditions, the crew could not survive much longer. Yet, by God’s grace, some English fishermen spotted and rescued the brave Americans. The miracle was in the rescue, yet the message was in the way they were rescued. You see, the fishermen had to cut their commercial nets to come to the crew’s aid – those nets were their livelihood.

Is your life making a crash landing? Tempered by the rough, chilly waters? Perhaps it is time to cut your nets with the world and be rescued from your sin. Christ has his lifeboat ready; all you have to do is jump in.
